Prologue
There’s a ton of reason why I’m a Catholic, but the simple answer is because it’s the truth.
Trusting Jesus is like trusting your medical doctor: they are here to help you, and to save your life. I’m putting my health it into their hands.
“And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith.”
1 Corinthians 15:14
It best explain what reality is. It isn’t afraid of scientific discoveries. It’s proven more and more by archeological evidence. Miracles are so real that we can’t ignore them. Jesus was really God who came down in the flesh to save us from eternal separation with God. We are part of a covenantal love story, and the marvelous thing that happen is that God gave us the Eucharist to be 1 flesh with Him.
- God exists
- Jesus is the Son of God
- Jesus founded the Catholic Church
If God exists, then everything change:
– atheism is false
– life has objective meaning
Atheism for me doesn’t make sense.
God put a desire in us to seek eternal joy.
One of the greatest gifts I’ve received in my life is my Catholic faith. I can’t ever be grateful enough for God and all the people I met in my life who help me to become who I am today.
My family has been Catholic for a while, but that’s not the reason why I am one. I could just easily leave it out easily like anybody else. That would be a genetic fallacy, a conclusion based on a belief’s origin.
I’m mostly Catholic for 3 major reasons:
- Beauty
- Truth
- Goodness
But the strongest one is the Truth. If it’s not, there’s no more reason to stay & believe.
Truth
History
Christianity is a religion based on history, not on personal feelings.
Faith is to know & trust.
Science, archeology, literature has proven the truthfulness of the faith.
Beauty
Spirituality
The Holy Eucharist & celebration of Mass is at the core of the spiritual life of a Christian.
Goodness
Holiness
It’s when evil hits hard, that’s when the Church shines.
It’s the truth
The Catholic Church claims to have the fullness of the truth.
Saints & martyrs
The Church has tremendous spiritual & great people who sacrifice their lives for God & others.
It’s brilliant & smart
Some of the most brilliant minds in science, art & philosophy in history were strong & devoted believers. This keeps me confident that our faith isn’t a naive belief. People like Newton, Leibniz, Lemaître, Michelangelo, Pasteur, Pascal, Galilei, Fibonacci, Descartes, etc… are huge inspirations for me and the world.
Meaning of life
Life makes so much more sense when I see it through the lens of the Catholic faith.
It answers these fundamental questions: who am I, where do I come from, where am I going? Why is there suffering? Why good instead of bad? The Church isn’t afraid of science or new discoveries. In fact, it makes much sense that God created the universe out of nothing, instead of the universe pop out of nothing uncaused, from nothing.
Holy Eucharist
The Holy Eucharist has always been the central focus of the Catholic Church.
Christianity makes sense of reality
I found that it’s the best worldview we can imagine that can explain things that science can’t answer: where do we come from, why are we here, where are we going.
Science
A lot of people think that faith & science are irreconcilable, but if we study history, we’ll notice that the most brilliant minds that contributed to the field of science were strong & devoted Catholics & Christians.
Newton, Leibniz, Lemaître, Pasteur, Pascal, Galilei, Fibonacci, Descartes, etc.
Meaning of life
Being a believer, as no one would dispute, that it does give us a meaning of life, that we can handle anything in life despite the difficulties.
If we follow where the evidence or belief is leading us, atheism is depressing and irrational.
Lack of objective morality in atheism
Now, that doesn’t mean that atheists are immoral, I do commit errors like anybody else as a Catholic, but it is because God exists, that I have an objective reference to tell good or bad, right or wrong.
Mission of the Church
Because the Church is well-guided by the Holy Spirit
The Church is a boat that welcomes anybody who’s lost in the ocean. But it only goes into 1 direction. Numerous people had tried to destroy it with heresies, but it has always survived.
The Church change the world
I’ve never heard of any organization in the world that push forward society in the field of science, education, philosophy, art, social justice, spirituality, etc. like the Catholic Church does.
High demands for holiness, high mercy
It always pushes us to be holier every day, and yet, offers us a safety net for our failures.
A Church that doesn’t demand holiness isn’t a Church, and a Church that doesn’t give mercy isn’t a Church as well.
Beauty
Some of the world’s most iconic paintings are made by Catholics.
Who doesn’t get inspired when we talk about Michelangelo, Bernini, Raphael, Da Vinci, Giotto, etc.
Literature
Dante, etc.
Music
Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, etc.
Goodness
We have so many incredible Saints that contributed to the good of the world. I was blessed to raised in a loving & caring community. But despite that, the most important relationship I must have is with God. Maybe one day everybody will leave the Church, but I won’t, because I don’t depend on friendship to stay at the church. If our heart is rooted deeply in Christ, we can endure any obstacle, such as been the few who stay for Christ.
