7 Days of Creation

The fall of Lucifer

In the beginning, God created the angels. They were meant to serve God, but one of them, Lucifer (bearer of light) decided to rebel against God. A war in Heaven happened (good angels versus bad angels). Michael (who is like God) took the lead of the army of good angels. God then expulse Lucifer and his minions down to earth and Hell. Lucifer now becomes Satan. And since he stills have hatred against God, he will destroy God’s greatest creation: humankind made in his image.

6 days of Creation

One of my friend asked me if I remember the 6 days narrative. The 6 days aren’t scientifically literal. They are allegorical.

Spirit + water

When we see the Holy Spirit and water in the Bible, it’s a sign of a “new creation”.

  1. Noah release a dove above the water
  2. Moses: a wind separate the water of the Red Sea into 2 so the Israelites can go through it
  3. Jesus is baptized and the Holy Spirit came

And so, this is a foretaste of the sacrament of baptism, where we become a new creation.

Light was made

The creation of the light.
According to St Augustine, the 1st day was the separation of the good angels (light) and the bad angels (devils).

In Latin, God said “Fiat Lux” for “Let there be light”, and light was made. Later, when God asked Mary for becoming the Mother of the Savior, she replied “Fiat” for “Let it be done”, and she bears the Light of the world.

Against the pagan

The creation story in major religions is fascinating. However, since Israel was in contact with Babylon, they surely had an intention behind the story.

Babylon

There’s good evidence that the Mesopotamians invented the 7 days week system before the Israelite. They associated 1 of their gods to 1 of the 7 days, including the sun & the moon.

The story of the Creation in Genesis was a way to go against the pagan gods. For the Babylonians, the sun was a god, the moon was a god, etc. For a Jew, none of them should be worship. They are only a creation, not the Creator himself. God is a universal Being outside of time, matter & space, and so they aren’t the one who deserve our praise.

Gnostics

The ‘orthodox’ view of Creation is that God is 1, and is the sole creator of the universe. However, in the Gnostic cosmology, there’s a multitude of gods (including the ‘aeons’). The ‘demiurge’ would be the creator of the material world.

Adam & Eve

The name “Adam” means “from the earth”, and “Eve” means “mother of all living”.
Later on, we will have a new Adam & new Eve.

Hidden symbols

There are hidden symbols & pre-figuration in the 7 days narrative.
