Staying holy is as hard as staying healthy in a culture of fast food. You have to go against the current.
In Christianity, rooted in the resurrection of the body of Christ, is very sacramental.
Did you realize it? Our body is ‘sacramental’, they reveal the mystery of the invisible God toward a visible human body.
Both the body & the soul are vital toward each other.
Cardio exercise helps me to stay focus better, so I can pray better. Studying the theology of the body gives more meaning & purpose to my physical body.
I started to go to the gym, not only because it has great benefits for my health, I look better too, I can live longer, be more productive, and more importantly, I realize the implication of the spiritual life as well.
Being healthy isn’t a privilege for few, but a necessity for everyone. Sainthood is also the same, God draws each of us toward Him
One of my project lead once teach me a good lesson: in China, the health system is so bad, that all elderly do exercise daily, so they stay healthy and avoid going to the hospital. They adopt a lifestyle that is great for them and others.
A human without a body or a soul, cease to exist. The separation of the body & the soul is call ‘death’. The union of the body & soul is called ‘life’.
They both hunger. The body can’t live without food, for the soul either, can’t live without spiritual food, and this is where the Eucharist is so important.
In both ways, the lifestyle is uncomfortable & demanding.
It requires dedication, self-discipline, work ethic.
But both way leads you to greatness. Don’t get discouraged because you don’t see any results at the beginning. It comes with hard work, and it will pay off.
My martial art teacher used to say: “The more you sweat, the less blood you’ll lose on the battlefield.”
Both will help you with temptation.
A body who is healthy is less likely to get sick as quick. As the same for the spiritual life, when one makes a commitment, we tend to avoid going in the wrong direction. Of course, we will fail often, but as long as we get up and continue again, we will strike for greatness.
What about those fast-foods? They look so appetizing! My hunger got awaken. Should I restrain myself from eating them? If I’m on diet, I should resist them. Unless I have to do more exercise in order to digest them. Our human desire gets attracted to many things. A good diet makes you healthy. A bad one hurts you. And overdose hurts you too. In the spiritual life, we then, realize that we have a 3rd option for our desires: it’s not stoicism (bad diet) or an addiction (overdosing), but mysticism, the right path that leads us to have union with God, who overflow us with his Love. Like a good diet, I have to choose the right food that will give me proteins & the minerals that will help me to have the energy to do great things. And that’s the reason why God became incarnate through Jesus Christ, who gives his whole body for us in the Eucharist, to nourish us of his great love for us.
People who achieved a high level of expertise never regret it.
We don’t need to worry. Stress gets out.
St Terese of Avila starts up with boring & dry prayers when she joined the monastery life. Progressively, she has many mystical experiences, going into an ecstasy trance & levitations. At the end of it, she experiences a high peak of “transverbaration“.
